Discrete mechanical models of concrete fracture

چکیده
Discrete models of solids have been motivated, in large part, by the discontinuous and heterogeneous nature material structure its breakdown under loading. The capabilities discrete evolved over past several decades, offering novel means for investigating structure–property relationships. However, lack understanding both utilities disadvantages limits their further development applications. Simulation of the Mode I fracture of concrete beam with cohesive models
Crack propagation modeling in quasi-brittle materials such as concrete is essential for improving the reliability and load-bearing capacity assessment. Crack propagation explains many failure characteristics of concrete structures using the fracture mechanics approach. This approach could better explain the softening behavior of concrete structures. A great effort has been made in developing nu...
متن کاملA Simple Fracture Mechanical Interpretation of Size Effects in Concrete Fracture Toughness Tests
Concrete is a so called quasibrittle material which, despite predominantly elastic material response, exhibits in tension loading a stable non-linear fracture response, when tested under displacement control. The reason for the non-linearity is the development of a fracture process zone, in front of the crack, due to micro-cracking and crack bridging. The effect of the fracture process zone is ...
متن کاملUncertainty quantification in Discrete Fracture Network models: Stochastic fracture transmissivity
We consider flows in fractured media, described by Discrete Fracture Network (DFN) models. We perform an Uncertainty Quantification analysis, assuming the fractures’ transmissivity coefficients to be random variables. Two probability distributions (log-uniform and log-normal) are used within different laws that express the coefficients in terms of a family of independent stochastic variables; t...
متن کاملDiscrete fracture patterns of virus shells reveal mechanical building blocks.
Viral shells are self-assembled protein nanocontainers with remarkable material properties. They combine simplicity of construction with toughness and complex functionality. These properties make them interesting for bionanotechnology. To date we know little about how virus structure determines assembly pathways and shell mechanics. We have here used atomic force microscopy to study structural ...
متن کاملnumerical simulation of concrete fracture under compression by explicit discrete element method
a new model is proposed for two-dimensional simulation of the concrete fracture in compression. the model generated by using the voronoi diagram method and with considering random shape and distribution of full graded aggregates at the mesoscopic level. the aggregates modeled by combining irregular polygons, which then is placed into the concrete with no intersection between them. by this new m...
